Weight a Minute – 10 Week Turnaround!

Cause You’re Not Trying to be a Couch Potato!

This post is sponsored by Hill’s. Weight control is not only important for humans. It’s important for all people. And as we discussed in a book review during a prior post, dogs can be people too!

Did you know that 50% of pets are technically overweight? Oh dear!

The objective of the 10 Week Turnaround campaign (#PerfectWeight) is to educate parents about the importance of healthy weight for their pets. Hopefully what we share with you here will help you make a more informed decision about your pet’s nutrition.

SONY DSCIt’s been a tough winter, and Gilligan sure is glad to be back out as the thaw is setting in! Staying fit is a very important part of Gilly’s lifestyle, especially because of all the risks associated with being overweight that specifically face the Dachshund breed.

Hill’s understands the importance of proper nutrition. They will tell you how important it is to be mindful of the impact of even your treat choices on your dog’s overall health, as is demonstrated by the below chart from their Treat Translator page.

When you consider the fact that Gilligan’s owners are more than ten times his size by body weight, this seems less far-fetched (feeding him 1oz of cheese is the equivalent of his Papa eating well over half a pound!).

We’ve shared with you that Gilligan’s snack of choice these days is frozen broccoli. We would highly recommend it.

Hill’s Science Diet Perfect Weight dog food now comes in a new variety that’s specially formulated to achieve and maintain a healthy weight and improve quality of life in small and toy breed dogs (which make up 40% of the dog population). It features prebiotic fibers for gentle digestion and 100% balanced nutrition.

70% of dogs and cats who used Science Diet Perfect Weight lost weight within 10 weeks!

From their handsome choice of cover model, we’re certain they understand the importance of weight control for pups like our hero Gilligan. 😉

  1. Humans often forget the size difference. Just like they wouldn’t feed a tiny baby a big burger, why they think they can feed it to a tiny dog we don’t know. A healthy weight is so important.

  2. Barley hates broccoli–but she really likes frozen peas and frozen green beans (which is nice because I don’t like green beans, so when they’re in a frozen veggie mix, I have a good excuse not to eat them!). Glad you’ve found a tasty, healthy snack!

  3. Hi Y’all!

My Human wants to know if Hills has a diet food for her. I told her I didn’t think they made people food. Am I right?

    1. Yep. Truth be told we are a little less strict on the precise calorie counts around here, but the type of nutrition and the proportion of food-to-body mass is something we take pretty seriously.

    1. Yes! I like carrots too, but don’t get them as much. Did you know their sugar content is more than double broccoli’s? It’s not like eating cane sugar, granted, but it’s technically a sweeter food than I expected!

    1. As much as I personally wish those humans would let me eat their food, I know they deny me it because they’ve got my back (literally: I will have more back problems if I fatten up and eat their food)! So, well played I say! *wags*

  4. Wow, that treat translator is pretty eye opening! Since we have different size dogs, i have to be mindful of what I give 22 lb. Cricket for treats, as compared to her much larger 62 and 67 lb. siblings! It definitely helps that they all stay active.

  5. Great post! And you are GORGEOUS!

I used to be twice my body weight, but I went from fat to fit. 🙂 And I swear by Dr. Hills all the way. I used their weight reduction food, and then I switched to regular. LOVE IT!
